FARM HOUSE

This 3000 square foot home is located in a rural community near Venodocia, Ohio, and was designed as a retirement home for two sisters. The property selected was within view of the client’s childhood home. To make reference to this sentimental landmark, the home was positioned on the site to allow the central axis/corridor to frame this view. The home is divided into three simple building forms linked by the axis and grouped by function. The central form is the common gathering area and contains the main entry, kitchen, living and dining areas. The west wing contains the bedrooms and shared bathroom. The east wing houses the mudroom, craft room, guest bedroom and two-car garage. The architectural language of the home is derived from the iconic farmhouse typology. Special consideration was given to address the homeowners’ love for baking, quilting, and music.
